AS resin's scientific name is acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer. It is a polymer compound made from the copolymerization of acrylonitrile and styrene. Generally contains 15% to 50% of styrene. Transparent with yellow to amber colored solids. Density 1.06. Thermoplastic. Not easy to change color. It is not affected by dilute acids, dilute alkalis, dilute alcohols, and gasoline. However, it is soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, dichloroethylene, etc. Has excellent heat resistance and solvent resistance. Mainly used for the production of ABS resin blends.
SAN (AS) has higher impact strength and excellent heat resistance than polystyrene, oil resistance and chemical resistance. For example, it is very resistant to certain hydrocarbons that stress crack the polystyrene. The elastic modulus is the higher one of the existing thermoplastics.
AS is a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer and is not susceptible to internal stress cracking. High transparency, softening temperature and impact strength higher than PS.
