The annual EU Status Seminar organized by the European University College was held from 10th to 12th in Florence, Italy. A number of senior EU officials at the 11th meeting called for the intensification of reforms in the EU’s foreign affairs, defense, finance, and monetary policies and systems.
In a keynote speech on the 11th meeting, European Parliament President Tayani mentioned the reform of the European Union’s defense, border control, and immigration policies. Tayani proposed the establishment of a European Union Bureau of Investigation similar to the FBI, and a more effective information exchange mechanism among investigation agencies in various countries in order to improve the security of European citizens.
EU Commission Chairman Juncker called for a change in the EU’s foreign policy-making mechanism and proposed the introduction of an “effective number system” to pass EU’s diplomatic decision-making.
European Central Bank President Mario Draghi also urged the completion of the construction of the European Banking Union and the Monetary Union, and approved a new financial instrument as soon as possible to help the member states of the euro zone respond to the crisis.
