The Zhuhai-Hong Kong-Macao Bridge, the world's longest sea-crossing bridge, will be opened to traffic at 9 a.m. on October 24, 2018.
The Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, which is 55 km long, integrates bridge, island and tunnel into one. It is the longest cross sea bridge in the world. From the establishment of the Coordination Group Office in March 2004 to the formal start of construction on December 15, 2009, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has lasted 14 years from design to construction.
As the largest steel bridge in the world, the steel plate consumption of the main girder alone is 420,000 tons, equivalent to the weight of 10 bird's nests or 60 Eiffel Towers.
The Zhuhai-Hong Kong-Macao Bridge is known as the "Seven Wonders of the New World". The opening of the Zhuhai-Hong Kong-Macao Bridge will greatly shorten the space-time distance between Hong Kong and Zhuhai and Macao. It only takes 30 minutes to drive from Hong Kong to Zhuhai-Macao. Before opening to traffic, if land trips can only bypass the Humen Bridge in Dongguan, the journey is about 3 hours, and the waterway ride by high-speed passenger liner also takes 1 hour.
